Nvidia's annual GPU conference wrapped up yesterday, and they had some amazing tech to show off.  One of their lead engineers gave a presentation about the uncanny valley and the way they're using ridiculously high-fidelity motion capture to overcome it.

The demonstration at the end is running in real time on a Titan GPU, pushing over 40,000 operations per pixel per second.  2 teraflops is just mind blowing.

I'm just wrapping up with a ridiculously long game of Endless Space.  It's a 4X game similar to Sins of a Solar Empire or Galactic Civilization.  If you're not familiar with the genre, it's essentially Civ in space.  Instead of sending out explorers to find and found cities, you're sending out fleets of space ships to discover and colonize star systems.

The game has an incredibly rich economy, so you can ally with other players (or NPCs) and trade various resources (of which there are ~16).  You can also create giant armadas of ships, and you have a great deal of control over how each ship is built down to the individual weapons, armor, tonnage, etc.




If 4X games are your cup of tea, Endless Space definitely deserves a look.

Wow, I liked SW:FU1...2 though sucked waaay too much, only like 5-6 hours of game play and NO story whatsoever.

This guy was an idiot, at one point he stated that because electricity goes out sometimes he shouldn't buy a vacuum.  Or because he drops cell phone service he shouldn't buy a cell phone.  This in response to people saying they wouldn't buy a xbox because of the always online feature.

I don't know how you can compare a REQUIRED part of a product like electricity and cellular coverage to an optional internet connection.  I mean really, we all know games work without the internet...so whats the point of making it required for single player gaming?

Steam is doing some crazy trading card beta in which you can earn (and, obviously, trade) cards by playing games.  I'm guessing they're either tied to achievements or have their own set of achievement-like goals.  You can use these cards to "level up" your Steam account and get other nifty things like game coupons, profile backgrounds, etc.
