What is the cost of living there in Ann Arbor? Is it about the same as Kalamazoo?

Not really sure on the comparison, but you can get a 1 bed apartment for about 500+ Depends on the area. The stuff near U of M seems to be cheaper, but thats "college slums" The outer areas/Ypsi area is where I am at and its about 5 or 600 a month. But other than that, it is a pretty tight area with tons of stuff in it, lots of good dining, meijer's, kroger's. nice theater with imax, etc.
What else did you want to know?

That's about it. I got a call for a .NET developer position in Ann Arbor. Sounds like its about the same cost as Kalamazoo but with better entertainment.
Thanks

Wow, that's cheaper than I thought. I wonder if anybody up there is looking for a network engineer?

Well I mean my standards might not be as high as yours. The one bedroom I have is 650 a month and is 800 sq feet. The nice thing is it has a seperate room for an office, which is cool. But some places can be much higher, have fireplaces, etc.
Im just getting sick of renting, money goin down the tubes.

Are there any advantages to getting a condo? Prolly should just wait till I save enough for a house, cause with the market as it is, might be a bit difficult to sell the condo when it's time for a house.

The only time I would ever buy a condo is if I lived in some God-forsaken dump of a major city and I didn't want to drop a million bucks on a house that was within driving distance.
In short, don't ever buy a condo. It's essentially just an apartment with a mortgage. The only thing your mortgage payment will get you is the ability to do some (limited) construction work on your place and some slightly higher-scale neighbors. You still have to deal with the noise ordinances, noise from your neighbors, living on the Xth floor, shared laundry (usually), and all the other crap that comes with living in a box.

Meredith and I are exploring our options at the moment. We'll most likely be moving to a more populated area within the next three years, so it probably isn't prudent for us to buy a house right now.
However, there is no way that we're going to stay in this apartment for three more years. I've only been here for 20 months and I'm already going nuts.
We'll probably either rent a house for a couple years or buy something cheap and fixable.

wow bob, megadeath is already asking for her space?
but really, why is the appartment so bad? Just running out of room or have you had more runins with the maintenance hippy.
I would hate to be in a situation to try and sell a house I bought about a year ago.
My apparment might not be very big, but I challenge you to get a house like it for $580 a month.

We just don't have enough room. Our closets are absolutely packed to the rafters just to keep the clutter out of the living areas.
We also have to put up with noisy neighbors fighting at all hours of the night and a complete lack of privacy, in addition to the inconvenience of living on the third floor.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to...
do the dishes...
when the neighbors are trying to kill one another?

hey I do the dishes...when all the dishes are dirty...and all the dish-like things also...and anything I think might be able to be used as a dish is dirty, then I do the dishes.
