Quote:
Men are more intelligent than women, claims new study

By BEN CLERKIN & FIONA MACRAE

It is research that is guaranteed to delight men - and infuriate the women in their lives. A controversial new study has claimed that men really are more intelligent than women.

The study - carried out by a man - concluded that men's IQs are almost four points higher than women's.

British-born researcher John Philippe Rushton, who previously created a furore by suggesting intelligence is influenced by race, says the finding could explain why so few women make it to the top in the workplace.

He claims the 'glass ceiling' phenomenon is probably due to inferior intelligence, rather than discrimination or lack of opportunity.

The University of Western Ontario psychologist reached his conclusion after scrutinising the results of university aptitude tests taken by 100,000 students aged 17 and 18 of both sexes.

A focus on a factors such as the ability to quickly grasp a complex concept, verbal reasoning skills and creativity - some of they key ingredients of intelligence - revealed the male teenagers had IQs that were an average of 3.63 points higher. The average person has an IQ of around 100.

The findings, which held true for all classes and levels of parental education, overturn a 100 year consensus that men and women average the same in general mental ability. They also conflict with evidence that girls do better in school exams than boys.

But Prof Rushton, who was born in Bournemouth and obtained his doctorate in social psychology from the London School of Economics, argues that the faster maturing of girls leads to them outshining boys in the classroom.

And since almost all previous data showing an absence of difference between the sexes was gathered on schoolchildren, the gender difference could easily have been missed.

'It looks like up until late adolescence, the females have the advantage over males because they mature faster, which masks the underlying difference, he said.

Although experts have accepted that men and women differ mentally, with males averaging higher on tests of 'spatial ability' and females higher on verbal tests, it was assumed the differences averaged out, leaving no difference in overall intelligence.

Prof Rushton believes the differences are directly linked to brain size, with other studies showing men having slightly bigger brains than women.

'We know that men have larger brains, even when you take into account larger body size,' said the researcher. 'That means there are more neurons. The question is what these neurons are doing in a man - and they probably have an advantage in processing information.'

It is thought the difference may date back to the Stone Age, with women seeking out men who are more intelligent than them in a bid to pass on the best genes to their children.

'Some people have suggested it evolved because women prefer men who are more intelligent than they are for husbands,' said the professor.

'Just as they prefer men who are taller than them, they also prefer a male who is a little ahead of them in IQ.'

Critics claim Prof Rushton's results could have been skewed by the inclusion of more test results from females than form males.

Prof Rushton, who four years ago triggered a scientific row by claiming intelligence and behaviour are influenced by race, with blacks being more likely to be involved in crime and Asians having a greater chance of high IQs, however, stands by his results.

'These are unpopular conclusions,' he said. 'People should not be made to feel afraid to study controversial issues.

'We have the right to find the truth. One should really look at the facts.'

His work appears to confirm British research which showed men have bigger brains and higher IQs than women, which may explain why chess grandmasters and geniuses are more likely to be male.

The analyses of more than 20,000 verbal reasoning tests taken by university students from around the world revealed that women's IQs are up to five points lower than men's .

Women needn't feel despondent, however, as the scientists believe women can achieve just as much as men - as long as they work harder.

I can show you men where to shove your "4 extra points."

Whoever agrees to that statement can learn yoga and suck on his own dick from here on out.

Don't think we haven't thought of it.  Don't you remeber the title of the book, Men Are From Mars Women Are From Venus.  That was our secret plan if we could all learn yoga...but we were infiltrated by some dyke who looked like a 400 lb body lifter dude.

(Meant dyke in the way gay people mean it...cause if they can say it, so can I...I was born to think that way!)

Feminists are idiots.

No offense Cait.  But I've noticed for the most part they spend more timing bitching about not being treated equal then they do actualy working to DESERVE to be treated equal.

Don't tell me your as good as me, prove it.

(...for the record, I have no bias towards women being better at anything than me....)

i'm glad you think that, Wes, as I feel everyone should be paid on their work ethic and amount of work in general.

however, a lot of men are ass holes about it---and still wont pay a woman who works harder than anyone in the office. I know--my mom is one of those women.

and its not just equal pay we ask for, its a really complicated matter which involves protection of children, etc. And I know that there are awesome brothers out there who feel the same way as us---and no, they aren't gay.

X, I'd like to extend my apologies for that 400 lb dyke and your lack of talent in the art of yoga. my condolences, friend.

And my meeting wasnt the bitchy feminists---it was the ones (including myself) who want to help other men and women and who want progress in America. Simple as that. It was more or less a conference on how and what needs to be done---and there is a LOT of work.

Anyways, I'm jump off my soapbox for now. I don't feel like pulling a b0b and writing my thesis on what true feminisim is.

Well now...this might get interesting.

I want to know, why women cry for equality and when I go for testing for a police academy I have to do 32 pushups and women have to do 8.  I have run to faster, do more situps, push ups, and jump higher than women.  If women can do anything a man can do, why are not my goals lowered to women's or women's raised to men?  Does this mean that women can't or shouldn't be on front lines.  Also where is the call of women to be included in the required selective service (an oxymoron) when they turn 18?  How comeI, as a guy, am subjected to sign up to possibly serve and die for my country against my will and women aren't?

Also, when women do get into the higher levels,  and this also goes out to black people as well as women, how come you keep the status quo.  I have heard countless and countless stories of minorities getting hired into upper management and when they can promote or higher someone who is of the same quality and standard, pick a white person or a male, over a minority?  This is more of a call than a question.  If you're going to believe in affirmative action...then shouldn't you practice it?  And if someone say, "Oh the other white males would look down on it."  Screw you.  Because if you believe in something, you should stand up for it.  If it's not something worth standing up for, then it's not something worth to believe in.

My first questions are ones I would like answers to.  I am not asking them tongue in cheek...I really, truely want to know.

Muslim fury grows at Pope's speech

The furore over comments made by Pope Benedict about the Islamic concept of Holy War continues to grow. Today British Muslims joined in, fiercely criticising his remarks.

The pontiff was accused of falling into "the trap of bigots and racists" with the comments he made on a visit to Germany.

• Muslims must do more to integrate, says Archbishop

Last night Vatican officials were scrambling to defend the comments, saying the Pope had never intended to offend Muslims.

During a speech, he quoted a 14th century Byzantine emperor who said the prophet Mohammed had brought "things only evil and inhuman".

But Britain's Ramadhan Foundation, a youth organisation based in Rochdale, reacted angrily to the comments, comparing the Pope unfavourably to his predecessor John Paul II.

In a statement it said: "If the Pope wanted to attack Islam and Prophet Muhammad teachings he could have been brave enough to say it personally without quoting a 14th century Byzantine Christian emperor.

"The late Pope John Paul II spent over 25 years to build bridges and links with the Muslim community. He showed the world that its perception of Islam was false and that we are peace-loving people.

"The Ramadhan Foundation is disappointed that the current Pope has not followed the example of his predecessor; it is essential in today's world that we link together and encourage a wider understanding of our different faiths, celebrating our religious differences is essential in a ever expanding world."

Muhammad Umar, chairman of the foundation, said: "This attack on Islam and Prophet Muhammad by Pope Benedict is recognition that he has fallen into the trap of the bigots and racists when it comes to judging Islam on the actions of a small number of extreme elements."

The Pope's speech quoted from a book recounting a conversation between 14th century Byzantine Christian Emperor Manuel Paleologos II and an educated Persian on the truths of Christianity and Islam.

"The emperor comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war," the Pope said.

"He said, I quote, 'Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached'."

Benedict described the phrases on Islam as "brusque", while neither explicitly agreeing with nor repudiating them.

Pakistan's parliament condemned the "derogatory" remarks today and demanded an apology. The country's foreign ministry said they were "regrettable" and claimed they would encourage violence.

Vatican spokesman the Rev Federico Lombardi issued a statement defending the speech after Pope Benedict returned to Rome. "It certainly wasn't the intention of the Pope to carry out a deep examination of jihad (holy war) and on Muslim thought on it, much less to offend the sensibility of Muslim believers," he said.

He insisted that the pontiff wanted to "cultivate an attitude of respect and dialogue toward the other religions and cultures, obviously also toward Islam".

But Turkey's top Islamic cleric Ali Bardakoglu asked Benedict to apologise and made a string of accusations against Christianity, raising tensions ahead of a planned papal visit to the country in November.

He said he was deeply offended by the remarks and called them "extraordinarily worrying, saddening and unfortunate".

The 57-nation Organisation of the Islamic Conference, based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, said it regretted "the Pope's quote and for the other falsifications". Militant Islamic websites also attacked the Pope.

...

Wow...good job guys.  I would be able to understand your anger if you just spoke out against what the pope said.  If some Muslim quoted, oh Muhammad, and said that Christians should either convert to Islam or die at the sword...I'd be mad too.  Yet when someone, here it's the pope, speaks out against holy wars...something Catholics know a lot about, and you speak out by burning the pope in effigy...doesn't that look really really bad?  I know many liberal Muslims are trying to pass off jihad as introspected learning (which if you read the Koran it sorely isn't).   I mean, I could nit pick this entire article but I think anyone with half a brain sees the hypocracy of claiming what the pope did was wrong by claiming Muslims are violent and need to intergrate...and you go out and become entreamly angry and start burning stuff.  God forbid, he he, that the pope would have sent his message in a form of a cartoon...or you'd be rioting and burning the Vatican flag.

Yanno, the Muslims are simply looking for a reason to be offended, and they're completely twisting the verse out of proportion.

Am I the only one who finds irony in the Pope commenting on holy wars?  Crusades?  Spanish inquisition?  Waldensian genocides?

So what?  You can gripe and I can't?  Also that sounds like a very male response to a reasonable gripe about a flaw between the sexes.  Cheesy

Update on the pope's speech and the Arab response.

Here's the speech that started it all:  http://www.cwnews.com/news/viewstory.cfm?recnum=46474

Here's the Arab response of attacking 5 Catholic churches in Palestein:  http://www.breitbart.com/news/na/cp_w091615A.xml.html

And here's an Arab op-ed piece that claims "“the pope’s comments may lead to war; we fear that the pope’s statements may lead to a war that we, Muslims and Christians alike, are trying to prevent through dialogue between East and West."  http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3304575,00.html

Umm I think Christians are more afraid of Muslims than Muslims are of Christians.  So, I know I'm one of those two parties, and I didn't get the memo about this war we're trying to prevent.  Anyone else get it?  In fact, when I hear Muslims claim that Jesus was only a prophet and their leaders claiming death to certain Jewish and Christians brethren and sitren...I don't declare war of them.  I just don't understand this.  Seriously, I want someone to explain to me...how this makes any sense?!?!?!
