Hmm all these things Picard WOULD have done...yet Kirk does. Oh what Tash Yar is dead? Kirk went and rescued Spock when he died.

Picard WOULD have beat the Maru Simulation fairly. Yet Kirk did.

Picard WOULD have stopped a big war. Kirk stopped an intergalactic war with the Klingons and stopped a group of people who "faked" a war so they wouldn't loose their social aspect. Kirk even defeated god! Even when he was a pansy, bigger than Picard even...he kicked his own butt!

Yet I think we can allll agree that Darth Vader would take both Kirk and Picard out. Yes?

Kirk has several manuevers actually, all part of the Starfleet tactical books. As does Picard and Riker for that matter...tard. Go watch some TNG and you'll hear "Defense pattern Kirk-Epsilon 3" and shit.

And Patrick. Kirk did NOT defeat the Kobiyashi Maru simulation fairly. It was designed to be impossible and to judge what you would do in a losing situation.

Kirk broke into the database and rewrote the program so he could beat it.

As the starship enters the Neutral Zone, the communications officer loses contact with the crippled vessel. Three Klingon starships then appear on an intercept course, or decloak nearby. Attempts to contact them are met with radio silence; indeed, their only response is to open fire, with unrealistically devastating results. The simulation ends with the understanding that the cadet's ship and crew have been lost. There is no way to win the resulting 'battle,' as the computer is programmed to ensure Klingon victory by any means necessary; but then, the objective of the test is not for the cadet to outfight the opponent, but rather to test the cadet's behavior and thought processes in the face of shame and defeat.

Wes is right. Kirk reprogrammed the system so the Klingons would "fear the Kirk." It was a total cop-out, but he received a commendation for "original thinking."
