Moral Kombat: "Videogames caused 9/11"

Spencer Halpin's upcoming hullabaioo documentary film Moral Kombat takes on videogames violency and blames that videogames caused the 9/11 incident. The film features also none other than Jack Thompson and is even predicting ten times of worse school massacre.

The documentary film's main subject is the gaming violence, featuring the facts that terrorists used flight simulators in training or that people like Pekka-Eric Auvinen or Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold used to play violent video games.

Jack Thompson is widely known of his crusade against video gaming and this documentary film where he is under the spotlight, will surely give him a new kick for his crusade as well as a lot of negtive publicity from the gaming community.

The film features some of the electronic sports title games, Call of Duty, Half-Life 2 and Halo 2.

Film's trailer was already uploaded to YouTube on 26th December 2006, but the original film has not been released out yet. The release date will be announced soon. Project's budget is between $650,000 and $1,000,000 dollars.

Logic would dictate that if he was right, shouldn't he have been shot by now?

...also the next time he wants to spend a cool million and sound retarded, how about giving me the money and I will hit him in the head with a tack hammer.

I got a small law question for Pat.  So if it happened that I was driving along and this little riced out honda POS with a wigga behind the wheel came up and started tailgating me like crazy and I maybe stopped pulled him out of the car and beat him to death with a crowbar, would that be against the law?

...the more you know.  Also I installed my hitch just now.  Next time that happens they get a towhitch through their radiator.

EDIT:  Also it isn't violent video games that made me like this...It's all hondas fault.

What the heck is the hitch for, other than busting up radiators?  What are you planning on towing with your 3 liters of gasoline burning fury?

Nope, not towing anything.  Just a little tailgating stopping action.

And by the way, for college my ranger towed all my possessions in a uhaul trailer just fine, so there!

I don't know about you, but I've found my black hitch extension (heh) is also quite handy for bruising shins.  Unfortunately, my shin is the one most often bruised!

When I had my POS van with no acceleration power I often felt like slamming on the breaks with tailgaters and just claim a deer jumped out in front of me.

Police Use Decoy Wallets, Purses To Make Arrests

POSTED: 8:06 am EST December 5, 2007
UPDATED: 1:34 pm EST December 5, 2007

NEW YORK -- Careful what you pick up in the subway -- it could lead to your arrest.

Straphanger Carlos Alayo said he learned that lesson when he picked up what he thought was a derelict wallet laying on a subway platform bench.

He said he intended to find its owner and return it, but as he went to get on the G train, he said he was stopped by police.

The 32-year-old had been ensnared in Operation Lucky Bag, an initiative from the New York City Police Department to lay decoys -- shopping bags, purses, backpacks or wallets -- around the subway system under the watchful gaze of officers who wait to see what passersby will do.

The decoys often contain real credit cards issued under pseudonyms to the police department. Theft of a credit card is grand larceny, a felony that could lead to jail time.

Police said that Operation Lucky Bag led to 101 arrests last year. Those individuals had a combined total of 761 prior arrests last year, said police spokesman Paul Browne.

"A person who takes or finds property which is lost or mislaid has a legal obligation to make efforts to return the property to its owner, which can include delivering the property to police," Browne said.

The New York Civil Liberties Union said the decoy tactic could deter people from being good Samaritans and should be abandoned.

"I'm sure the NYPD has far more sophisticated tactics at their disposal than dropping wallets on their trains," said NCLU executive director Donna Lieberman.

Alayo said he was not arrested or charged.

If your legally obligated to find the person how the heck are you suppose to do that if it's illegal?  I mean if they arrest you for picking up a lost wallet doesn't that mean it's illegal?

Reminds me of an episode of *whispers* Sliders where Quinn gets set up to be on the Running Man-esk game show.

WASHINGTON - Congressional aides say the Bush administration has hammered out an agreement with industry to freeze interest rates for certain subprime mortgages for five years in an effort to combat a soaring tide of foreclosures.

These aides, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the details have not yet been released, said the five-year moratorium represented a compromise between desires by banking regulators for a longer time frame of as much as seven years and industry arguments that the freeze should only last one to two years.

Another person familiar with the matter said the rate-freeze plan would apply to borrowers with loans made at the start of 2005 through July 30 of this year with rates that are scheduled to rise between Jan. 1, 2008, and July 31, 2010.

The administration said that President Bush will speak on the agreement at the White House on Thursday and the Treasury Department announced that Treasury Secretrary Henry Paulson and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Alphonso Jackson would hold a joint news conference Thursday afternoon with officials of the mortgage industry.

Treasury also announced that there would be a technical briefing to explain more of the details of the proposal.

Paulson, who has been leading the effort to craft a plan, said on Monday that the program would only be available for owner-occupied homes — as a way to make sure that the break is not granted to real estate speculators.

The plan emerged from talks between Paulson and other banking regulators and banks, mortgage investors and consumer groups trying to address an avalanche of foreclosures that are feared as an estimated 2 million subprime mortgages reset from lower introductory rates to higher rates.

The higher rates in many cases will boost monthly payments by as much as 30 percent, making it extremely difficult for many people to keep current with their loans.

The plan is aimed at homeowners who are making payments on time at lower introductory mortgage rates but cannot afford a higher adjusted rate.

Through October, there were about 1.8 million foreclosure filings nationwide, compared with about 1.3 million in all of 2006, according to Irvine, Calif-based RealtyTrac Inc. With home loan defaults still rising, the trend is expected to worsen next year.

This is only forestalling the eventual foreclosure of these homes.  The debt on these house will still continue to grow.  Will the .gov have to pay off their loan?

There's another drop of accountability down the drain.  When are we going to get back the good ol' days when people were responsible for their decisions?

Except for two decent Supreme Court justices, Bush's second term has been an unmitigated disaster.  I'd demand my vote back, but that would imply the other option was better.

Screw you.

Price controls aren't free.  I absolutely guarantee you that we'll be paying for this one way or another.  The .gov is just going to keep prolonging the housing bubble as long as they can instead of letting it pop.

Western Digital DRM'd Hard Drive Won't Let You Share MP3, DivX ... Or Impulse Tracker
By Rob Beschizza EmailDecember 06, 2007 | 8:44:04 PMCategories: Law

Wdfmybook_world_1n_2 Western Digital's 1TB MyBook external hard drives won't share media files over network connections (UPDATE: Don't install the "required" client software! See workaround below). From the product page:

"Due to unverifiable media license authentication, the most common audio and video file types cannot be shared with different users using WD Anywhere Access."

It doesn't matter what the files are: If you try to share these formats over a network, Western Digital assumes not just that you're a criminal, but that it is its job to police users. You see, MP3, DivX, AVI, WMV and Quicktime files are copy-protected formats.

The list of banned filetypes includes more than thirty extensions. Some of them are bizarre: .IT files are banned — these are Amiga-style music modules composed with Impulse Tracker, a particularly well-loved tracking sequencer that hasn't been updated in almost a decade. I composed with IT myself, back in the day, and still have all my shitty compositions, none of which Western Digital would have me share. (Try MOD vs. Speak&Spell masterpiece Eddie Dreams of Women, if you dare: IT, MP3)

Isn't it cute how the only data it views as worthy of policing are music and movies? These are the only copyrights that matter under corporate monkey law.

It's the most astonishing example of crippled equipment I've ever seen. A DRM'd hard drive! Whatever next? Dreaming meat?

UPDATE: The manual's appendix and online support site provide setup instructions for SAMBA, allowing access over IP instead of with the DRM-infested and poorly-reviewed client app, elsewhere claimed to be "required."

MOAR! Samba not enough? Gut the firmware and install made-to-measure Linux: An entire community of folks is here to help you hack your MyBook: mybookworld.wikidot.com.

Well, I certainly won't be buying that network drive.  It's a pity that Western Digital is doing this, because I've always been a huge fan of WD.

Police said in a statement they received an emergency call at 7:55 am local time Monday from "a man who indicated that he had just killed his daughter."

The victim, Aqsa Parvez, was "rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but tragically passed away late last night."

Her father, Muhammad Parvez, 57, was arrested at the scene and will be formally charged with murder when he appears in court Wednesday, said police.

The girl's friends, meanwhile, told local media she was having trouble at home because she did not conform to the family's religious beliefs and refused to wear a traditional Islamic head scarf, or hijab.

"She wanted to go different ways than her family wanted to go, and she wanted to make her own path, but he (her father) wouldn't let her," one of her classmates told public broadcaster CBC.

"She loved clothes," another of her friends, Dominiquia Holmes-Thompson, told the daily Toronto Star. "She just wanted to show her beauty ... She just wanted to dress like us, just like a normal person."

According to her friends, Aqsa had worn the hijab at school last year, but rebelled in recent months.

They said she would leave home wearing a hijab and loose-fitting clothes, but would take off her head scarf and change into tighter garments at school, then change back before going home at the end of the day.

The victim's 26 year-old brother was also charged with obstructing police in the investigation.

We shouldn't judge them, they're just different!  Come on, she deserved it... right?
