So the 16 year old was arrested and being charged with video taping sex with a minor? Wow, almost all hope is lost for our law enforcement.

I wanted to share a post with you guys from my IT Ethics class. This week, we're discussing the Internet advertising ethics, including the market impact of pop-up ads, flash advertisements, and fee-based search engine optimization.
One of the responses to the subject of search engine prioritizing (where a company pays to have their site listed higher for a certain word or search string) was downright scary, and is indicative of where this country is going. Unfortunately, most of my classmates agreed with her, and I was really the only voice speaking against her stance. Here's her post...
Quote:
The practice of paying money to get high on the list for more hits has been happening for several years, but not much has been said about this until now. I think it should be consider unethical and should not be allowed. The old saying "The rich get rich, and the poor get poorer" seems to fit for this instance. If you have money, you can make more money. But you don't have a lot of money, you don't have a fair chance and that's wrong. Anyone should be able to get their ads at the top of the list by possible alphabetizing the names and then rotating the sequence. All men are created equal and should have the same rights to advertise on the web without having to pay for that privilege. I believe this is both unethical and annoying. Annoying can be tolerated to some point, but when you cross the line permit money to talk, then that's unethical and should not be tolerated. An example that I have had is when I was trying to start an online business with a product and at first they were suppose to list to on the list alphabetically. Then I received a notice after signing on to the program, that I have to pay for a higher position on the list. It was very frustrating and until you get more hits and customers, you don't have to money to be able to afford such a cost. It's very frustrating.
Here's my response. I couldn't openly tell her she was an idiot, since it was a monitored discussion.
Quote:
What you've described is essentially socialism. We live in a capitalistic society, where the very definition of the "American dream" is every man's ability to make a better life for himself through hard work and persistence.
Yahoo and Google are two amazing examples of the American dream paying off big time. Both companies were started by a pair of college students with big brains and little pocket books. Both companies provided a new and innovative product and both have exploded into multi-billion dollar enterprises.
"Prioritizing" web search listings isn't only completely ethical, it's just plain good business sense. We don't have an innate right to unfettered search results, and the search engines we use don't make any such promises. I'm sure if you looked long and hard, you'd be able to find some sort of community-hosted, open source search engine that doesn't prioritize the results they offer, but it'd pale in comparison to Google, Yahoo, or any of the other big search engines. Why? Capitalism. The tens of thousands of servers that run Google's primary business application don't grow on trees. The money Google makes by prioritizing search results (combined with other sources of revenue) helps purchase the tools that drive Google's growth.

What do you guys think about her post? What is going to happen when our generation assumes control of the world?

Bravo, Bravo...excellent response.
I think the same things going to happen to our generation that happened to our parents hippy generation.
Once some hippies became rich they will want the middle class to share with the lower class so that we have a limited socialist system. Just as long as they don't have to share.
Our generation will be easier because we have no "great cause" we're against. We just agree with our former hippy professors. Once some people in our generation become rich we won't hear anything more about sharing money with others (as far as a redistribution of wealth...not the "give unto others" reasons) and you don't find too many hippy youths today and if you do most of them are stoners and their opinions don't matter anyways.
The only thing I think will change from this generation to our generation is that their will probably be less racist attitudes...and that's about it.

Marines Barred From Filming Commercial on Streets of San Francisco
Tuesday , September 25, 2007
They're the strong and the proud, but the Marines aren't free to stand on the streets of San Francisco.
The Silent Drill Platoon of the U.S. Marine Corps wasn't allowed to be filmed Sept. 11 on California Street in San Francisco for a segment of its new advertising campaign, a Marine spokesman told FOXNews.com.
Instead, the elite group took its austere display to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area for the final segment of its "America's Marines" TV commercial. The group is on a two-month nationwide tour as part of the campaign.
Stefanie Coyote, the executive director of the San Francisco Film Commission, the group that denied the permit, was unavailable for comment Tuesday. Her office referred calls to San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom's press office, which did not immediately return a request for comment.
Coyote told KGO-TV that "traffic control was the issue."
The film commission did allow the Marines' production unit to film the street without Marines. They'll be superimposed in the spot, KGO-TV reports.
Meanwhile, the Silent Drill Platoon continued its campaign, filming a portion of the commercial Monday in New York's Times Square during the early morning rush hour.
The platoon is documenting its journey on the Web site
www.Our.Marines.com
and plans to film portions of the commercial in Sligo, Ky., on Oct. 6, in the Grand Canyon and at Hoover Dam on Oct. 22 and in the Rocky Mountains on Oct. 30, according to the group's online schedule. The public is invited to attend.
The next time an earthquake rocks San Francisco and they call on the military for assistance, I hope the Marines tell the city to suck it.

Technically they call the national guard, not the military. Because, supposedly, there's suppose to be Posse Comitatus...but ya know...we're suppose to have habeas corpus and freedom of protest and right to a lawyer, trial, jury, representation...and we know how well that's going.
I say we just hire illegals in NV to start chipping away at the board that connects CA to the rest of the states and watch it slide into the ocean...I think it'd be fun to see if CA could get itself operational as it's own country. Let's see you solve the power crisis now Arnold!

Nasty cough, nasty run-in with the law

MORRISVILLE, NC - When Morrisville police officer Chris Gill handed him a ticket, Kent Kauffman coughed. Next thing Kauffman knew, Gill was charging him with assault on a government official.
Gill contends Kauffman intentionally coughed on him three times. According to Gill's report, Kauffman looked into the officer's eyes before "hacking" in his face, Morrisville spokeswoman Stacie Galloway said Wednesday.
Kauffman acknowledges that he coughed two or three times from the window of his Dodge minivan Tuesday but said it was toward Gill's waist.
"He says I coughed in his face," Kauffman said. "But that would only work if he had a 4-foot-long face."
Kauffman said that Gill cuffed him and threw him into the side of the patrol car, and that he ended up on the ground.
"It knocked the wind out of me," he said. "He kept yelling at me to get up. I told him, 'I can't move, man, I'm sick.' "
Kauffman, an accountant for Accountemps in Chapel Hill, said he developed a cough after his dog, Blair, died of kidney failure last week. He said he was still stricken Tuesday but went to work because he needed the cash.
Kauffman was traveling on McCrimmon Parkway just after 8 a.m. when Gill pulled him over for not wearing a seat belt. Gill charged Kauffman with a Class misdemeanor. If convicted, he could spend up to 60 days in jail.
Webster's dictionary says that to cough means to expel air suddenly and noisily from the lungs through the glottis, either as the result of an involuntary muscular spasm in the throat or to clear the air passages. A Wake County judge will decide the intent behind Kauffman's cough.
I'm so glad the author went through the trouble of defining "cough" for me. I was a bit confused.

It almost sounded like a bad intro to a graduation speech.
"Webster's dictionary defined graduation as a change in ones life...."

17lb Russian Baby
BARNAUL, Russia (Reuters)
Wed Sep 26, 10:16 AM ET
BARNAUL, Russia (Reuters) - A Siberian woman who gave birth to her 12th child -- doing more than her fair share to stem Russia's population decline -- was stunned to find that little Nadia weighed in at a massive 7.75 kg (17.1 lb).
Nadia was delivered by caesarean section in the local maternity hospital in the Altai region on September 17, joining eight sisters and three brothers, a local reporter said.
"We were all simply in shock," said Nadia's mother, Tatyana Barabanova, 43. "What did the father say? He couldn't say a thing -- he just stood there blinking."
"I ate everything, we don't have the money for special foods so I just ate potatoes, noodles and tomatoes," she told the reporter, adding that all her previous babies had weighed more than 5 kg.
The Guinness World Records lists a 10.2 kg baby boy born in Italy in 1955, and a 10.8 kg baby boy who was born in the United States in 1879 but died 11 hours later.
The average weight for most healthy newborn babies is around 3.2 kg (7.06 lb), according to World Health Organization figures.

I frickin' love Russia. Sure, they might be pinko commie bastards, but they make some
excellent
firearms! I own four (an M44, two SKS's, and an AK-47), and hope to own a fifth within a year!
I want a Dragunov chambered in 7.62x54R. It's a beautiful gun and I've wanted one for years. So sexy!

Ontario teen suffers burns after fellow student sets him on fire
GLENCOE, Ont. - A 14-year-old boy is recovering from burns after being sprayed with an aerosol deodorant and set on fire by another student at his high school near London, Ont.
Ontario Provincial Police Const. Christina Hunter says the teen was able to extinguish the fire but suffered burns to his torso.
He suffered first-, second-and third-degree burns in Tuesday's incident at Glencoe District High School, about 25 kilometres southwest of London.
He has since been released from hospital.
Hunter said police have investigated similar incidents in the past.
"It is a huge school matter," she told a London radio station. "We've had some similar incidents to this at other area high schools. They've been less serious, but nonetheless the kids are experimenting with fire."
Police say it's too early in the investigation to comment on whether the incident was intentional.
Hmmm, this gives me an idea....Bob, come 'ere!
