It's a network engineering role for a manufacturing company that recently moved into the area. I would be responsible for managing the network hardware, software, and telecommunications for the company as a whole. Since I'd be the only IT guy at the location I'm interviewing at, I would also handle the day-to-day IT support functions for that location.

I'm really excited about the position. I've had a lot of interviews at a lot of different types of companies (banks, insurance companies, hospitals, an electrical distributor, etc) but this is the only position I've really, really wanted.

The guy I interviewed with would be my boss, and we really hit it off. I'd give nearly anything to have a job with a boss I really got along with. After all, "If you love your job, you'll never work a day in your life."

I got a call yesterday for a second interview with the CFO of the company, which I think is a pretty good sign. You'll have to forgive me if I withhold the name of the company for now, but if I get an offer, I'll be more forthcoming.

Don't worry about Google. I'm not nearly liberal enough to make the cut with them, nor do I have the ridiculous qualifications they generally look for. Don't bother applying with Google if you've got anything less than a graduate-level degree.
