Anyone want to go to Japan for a week?
Cost about 1500 for flight and 7 days in a nice hotel downtown. + some more for expenses.
Just throwing it out there.
Shoot for sometime this summer.

Do you have any clue how much a "nice hotel" in Japan costs? Flamin' criznap, Batman.
If you can figure out some solid numbers, let me know. I really need a "get the heck out of the US" trip this summer.
What's on the agenda?

I was checking out Travelocity, and found a flight from Kalamazoo to Narita (Tokyo) plus six nights at a Holiday Inn for $3,024 for two people, or $1,512 each. The more people you add, the cheaper it gets. Of course, if you don't go to Tokyo, the rooms will probably be a heck of a lot cheaper.

Yea, see... It's not too bad. The hotel I found, I looked up on google maps And is pretty much right outside Tokyo proper by about a half mile. Not bad. Personally I wouldnt mind walking. Plus I have no idea how much spending money we would need to do this. Any thoughts?

A close personal friend of mine spent a couple years in Japan, and I've talked to her a few times about living expenses. Apparently, they are very,
very
expensive.
From what I remember, a CD costs about $30.00, and a CD single is about $15.00. Movie tickets are also about $15.00. I'm not sure how that translates to food and other basic necessities, but I can ask tomorrow to get a clearer picture of what we might expect to pay.

Bob, are you still interested, and what kind of timeframe would you be able to go? We were sorta thinking of summertime or even winter, just so we get enough time to gather funds.
I talked to a friend of mine who recently got back from Japan, and she said the price of food, eating out and travel was not as bloated as people say. The cost of living is pretty bad, but as far as eating out and whatnot, its only a little more expensive than here in the states.
Anyone else want to go? Looks like we might have 2 or 3 coming from my school as well. We are just trying to get the ball rolling and see if this is feasable or not.

You've got impeccable timing. I was just going to hop on the forum and ask you where we stood with this.
Yeah, I definitely want to go. I haven't taken a real, actual vacation since 1924. Actually, I haven't had a real vacation
ever.
The way I see it, this might be my last chance to go on a solo `adventure' before life catches up with me.
I've got a couple of "no-go" weeks throughout the year that I'd like to avoid. I'm planning on taking a short term mission trip to Mexico in late October which will cost me around $1,000, so I'd like to avoid September-November if possible. $3,000 is too much to cram into less than a few months.
Are you coming home this weekend? I'd like to sit down with you to see if we can get some ideas down on paper. We'll have to start planning soon if we want to get "early-bird" ticket prices, and passports can take 60-90 days to arrive.

I'm going to try not to make any cracks about Sumo wrestling...
Whoops, too late. Sorry Wes!

That's all my friend Brian would talk about when he was planning his trip to Japan. Just know that you'll get a lot of attention. My mind's not anywhere really; I'm just quoting him, that's all.
