Title: Windows 7 Post by b0b on Sep 25th, 2009 at 1:37pm
The final retail SKUs of Windows 7 will be hitting the market in a few weeks. Is anybody planning on making the jump?
I've been using the beta and release candidate versions at work for the past couple months and I'm fairly satisfied with it. I can't stand the lack of a classic interface, though. I'll probably wait to make the jump to Windows 7 on the Bobulator until my next system rebuild, which should be early in 2010. -b0b (...yay!) |

Yea im on it now, it's very nice. A little bubbly at first but i had no problems with drivers or my graphic apps. the classic interface is still there, its just a little off tho.

You found the classic interface? Did they add it back in between the Release Candidate and the RTM version or something?
-b0b (...looked everywhere!) |

yea it was in Appearance and Personalization > Basic and High Contrast themes > Windows Classic
I don't know how to change all programs scrolling on the start menu, though. Annoying, who wants to scroll like that? ew. |

Heck yeah! When I open my games folder, I want it to spread all the way across one monitor and half way across the next!
-b0b (...scrolling is for suckers!) |

Microsoft is getting people to host a Windows 7 launch party, and handing out a bunch of free swag to the hosts. I signed up as a host and registered a bunch of my favorite imaginary friends for a launch party so I could get the following:
* All hosts will receive: o One limited Signature Edition Windows 7 Ultimate o One Deck of Playing Cards with Windows 7 Desktop Design o One Puzzle with Windows 7 Desktop Design o One Poster with Windows 7 Desktop Design o Ten Tote Bags with Windows 7 Desktop Design for hosts and guests * Also included in USA party packs: o One package of streamers for decoration o One package of balloons for decoration o One table top centerpiece for decoration o One package of Windows 7 napkins You can try to get in on the action and host your own party at HouseParty.com, but the offer is limited to a certain number of participants so be sure to hurry! -b0b (...wants the Signature Edition of W7 to go with his Vista Signature Edition.) |

whats so fancy about a signature version?

Title: Re: Windows 7 Post by b0b on Sep 27th, 2009 at 6:40pm
If it's anything like the Signature Edition of Vista, it is a copy of Ultimate Edition that comes in a shiny box with Bill Gates' fake signature on it.
-b0b (...but its free!) |

My copy of Windows 7 Ultimate arrived yesterday along with all of the other free goodies listed above. I'll post pictures later!
I'm not sure if I want to hold off on upgrading the Bobulator to Windows 7 until my next hardware refresh in January, or if I want to pick up another hard drive and forge ahead with the upgrade next week. Ideas? -b0b (...video at 11.) |

Last post from Vista! I ordered a 1TB Caviar Black to host Windows 7 on and I'm going to jump the gun a bit and install it tonight. See ya on the flip side!
-b0b (...Bobulator 7.5?) |

I'm not sure if you noticed, but Vista and 7 both take up a ridiculous amount of disk space. One of the reasons why I'm jumping straight to Windows 7 instead of waiting for my hardware refresh is because I'm running out of space on my Vista system drive. I gave it 40GB and use it only for the operating system, but I'm still running ridiculously low on space.
That's why I wanted two 1TB drives, one for my games and one for everything else (partitioned for OS, apps, and storage). Besides, the Caviar Black drives provide nearly the same performance as the 10,000 RPM Raptors. Check out the reviews of the 1TB and 2TB Caviar Black drives and you'll see they either come close to or exceed the Raptors in every area. -b0b (...and they're a heck of a lot cheaper per GB!) |

I'm swapping between Vista and Windows 7 momentarily so you'll see a ton of drives right now, but C/D/E and S will disappear shortly. Anyway, here's the System disk I'm referring to:
Again, the only thing on the C drive is the core Vista stuff. All of the other apps on the system are on drive D: and data is on E:. I want as much space as possible for Windows 7, so I'm dedicating a ridiculous 150GB for the OS alone. -b0b (...would love a 4-disk RAID 5 with Raptors, though.) |

First post from Windows 7 RTM! I think this thread now has posts from the beta, release candidate, and RTM versions!

I grabbed Windows 7 Ultimate about a week ago from my msdn subscription. I haven't had a lot of time to play with it but I'm happy so far...
I installed it from vista and it threw my windows vista directory into C:\windows.old\ so I still have everything backed up. I should reformat though. |

I haven't tried an upgrade yet, but I've never been very happy with the results in the (distant) past.
I'm quite happy with Windows 7 on the Bobulator, even with the fux0red Start Menu. I've only had a chance to play Red Faction: Guerrilla for an hour or so, but it seems to be every bit as smooth as it was on Vista. We'll see how the other games go. -b0b (...still mourns the loss of his Start Menu game folder!) |

Microsoft teamed up with Burger King in Japan to offer a Windows 7 Whopper with seven beef patties. Mind you, this is in a country full of tiny Asian people...
