Title: Help me spend money Post by musiciannary on Jul 22nd, 2008 at 8:30pm
I lost my iPod somewhere on campus or on the bus yesterday, which was a sad day for me, but probably a very happy one for some complete stranger. At least he or she is being exposed to some very high-quality ear candy, which may not have happened without misfortune on my part.
So anyway, eventually I would like to invest in another mp3 player, and I'm looking into other models. It would be nice to have at least 4+ GB, with flash-based memory perhaps, and preferably under $100. Do you guys have any recommendations of what to look into and what to avoid? Pics, links, pros and cons are more than welcome. =) |

Buy a PDA and a cheap 4-8GB flash card. You can use it as an MP3 player, calendar, web browser, etc.

A PDA? Bob, come on... This isn't 1999. PDA's are on the way out. Do you really want to lug something that large around.
I guess it really depends on what you want. Most people don't have PDA's anymore because their phone can do all of the features. If your phone already does this, don't get a PDA. I personally just got a 8GB Zune and I love it. It's a little out of your price range, but it comes with a solid player giving you 4 or 8 gigs. (4 gigs is like 120ish) Either that or the very cheap, great to run with, iPod shuffle or nano. Just walk around Best Buy for a while and figure out what you like, and then find a good price online. |

You could have fooled me. Just about every systems engineer I run into has either a PDA or a Blackberry on their hip. Personally, I'll take a PDA and a cell phone over a Blackberry any day of the week, but that's purely a matter of personal preference. Check out Dell's Windows PDA page and tell me that PDA's are "on the way out." Note, this doesn't even include Palm PDA's. http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/category.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&category_id=6747 Can you use terminal services from your cell phone? Can you natively utilize an Exchange connector on your cell phone? Can you install WinAmp on your cellphone? I can do all of that and much, much more on my PDA. Get back to me in another five years. Maybe then I'll consider a "multipurpose" cell phone. -b0b (...FTW!) |

I can honestly count on one finger the number of women I've seen using a PDA, and her gender was questionable...

I have seen a woman try and use a PDA...does that count?

Well let me follow this logic:
Stick says, "PDAs are for girls." Bob says, "Get a PDA" Marie - is a girl. Therefore, Marie should get a PDA. I always liked Creative Zen Nano...however, I use that a lot for working out so you may want something with a bigger screen or something like that. So that's my specific pick. X |

Wes, that would only work if I could strap you to my arm or stick you in my pocket, and if you sang songs and read books to me...but thanks =)

Admittedly, that mental image is a little scary.
