Title: Another New Toy Post by b0b on Apr 7th, 2008 at 10:05pm
I picked up my latest gun after church yesterday, and thought I would show it off! I've needed a smaller CCW pistol for summer carry for quite some time now, and after a lot of research I finally settled on a Kahr P9. Kahr makes the "Cadillac" of small CCW guns and sticks to CCW pieces exclusively.
The Kahr P9 in 9mm is much smaller and lighter than my existing carry pistol, which is a Springfield Armory XD chambered in .40S&W. It's a little over half the width, a full inch shorter, and no more than half the weight. That might not sound like much, but it makes a world of difference when you're carrying it around for hours at a time. My XD is a great gun and it will continue to be my late fall, winter, and early spring CCW pistol, but it's just too bulky to effectively conceal under a t-shirt. I'll miss having the power of the .40S&W and having 12 rounds at my side, but I'd rather have 7 rounds of 9mm on my hip than 12 rounds of .40S&W sitting at home because it's too bulky to carry. Without further adieu... I've only put one magazine through it so far, but it shoots like a dream. The recoil is surprisingly light for a smaller pistol, and the grip doesn't bite too hard. If we ever get around to having another "Geeks with Guns" event, I'll be sure to bring it out. -b0b (...can't wait to put a few hundred rounds through it!) |

No tritium sites?

Yeah, it has Tritium night-sights. Those suckers are bright, too! Having never had glow-in-the-dark sights before, I'm really surprised by just how bright those puppies are!

Oh, that's awesome. I want one now. What did you pay, $900?

Retail was $699. After tax, it came to $741.
For $900, you could probably buy a decent 1911, but that would defeat the purpose of buying a concealable CCW weapon. -b0b (...thinks a 1911 will be his next pistol purchase.) |

Where do you buy your guns?

Through the mail from some guy named T.McVeigh

I buy most of them online from http://www.GunBroker.com, but this particular specimen was purchased at On Target in Kalamazoo. Their prices tend to be a bit on the high side, but this pistol was on sale for $699 which is a pretty good bargain.

What is the significance of taking the pictures of the guns under a TCP/IP book. Come on Bob.

Believe it or not, it wasn't entirely staged. I had the book sitting on my desk when I got home from the gun store, and it was the only clean flat surface in my office. So, I threw the pistol and mags on it and took a picture.
