Title: Forum Software Upgrade
Post by b0b on Nov 20th, 2007 at 8:46am
After two long years, YaBB has finally been updated to v2.2.  I'll be updating the forum software sometime today if I get a chance, so it may be down for 30-45 minutes (or longer, if I bork something up).

Don't worry, I'll do a full backup before I touch anything!

It seems like just about everything is working.  I've still got to screw around with the forum colors (CSS be damned!) and figure out why the private messaging isn't working.  If you guys see any other problems, let me know!

(...be sure to refresh if the colors are wonky!)

I say leave the quote color scheme like it is now...it's easier to read like it is.

Hmm the icons at the initial page are wonky. Too big, and bad transparency around the edges.

The quote color shouldnt be what it used to but prolly not this either.

Yeah, I'm still working on the colors.  Not all of the CSS properties have the same names, so I'm fixing those by hand.  I'll let you know when I have a rough draft available for viewing.

The buttons on the front page are fixed.  They new ones were ghey, so I copied the old ones back over.

I've got the crazy font colors at the bottom of the page fixed.  I'm not sure what colors you guys are seeing for the quotes, but it should be black on gray.  How does that look?

If you're seeing something else, change your forum template to "default" in your "My Center", save, and hit refresh.

I somehow managed to get Perl borked, sorry about that.  I frickin' hate Perl.  I installed the latest version and everything seems to be working again.

The only major task I have left is to figure out why "My Center" control panel looks like crap.  It's supposed to load an image bar above the main panel, but it looks like the images aren't where they're supposed to be.  The problem is that I can't figure out where they should be located in the first place...

-b0b
(...keeps at it.)

I like how the updates include "ICQ improvements" lol does anyone still use ICQ anymore?

I think all of the "My Center" stuff is now fixed.  E-mail and private messaging should be working correctly.  All of the CSS stuff should be done.

If you guys see anything else that doesn't work or looks like crap, please let me know!

In case you haven't checked out My Center yet, here's a screenshot!  I've been working on the forum for almost six hours now, and I think I've wrapped it all up.

I fixed the width of the forum.  It shouldn't take up the entire screen, but will display a reasonable border on the right side and a small margin (10 pixels) on the left.

Be sure to refresh to download the new CSS.

Oops, the swear filter was re-enabled during the upgrade and I missed it.  Fixed.

So I have a question for you guys.

I just set up a Linux server running Fedora Core 8 on it.  I set up FTP, telnet, SSH, Samba, and NFS.  Everything works just fine.  The only problem is that every time it boots up, it looses network connection.  I then have to have a monitor connected and do a ifup command to get it to finally work.

When looking at the file (/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts.ifconf-eth0) it tells that it's set to enable the network on reboot, but it never does.  It's pretty weird.  I can have a ping on it from another host, I can watch it boot up, and then I get reply pings from it, and as soon as the GUI starts the computer stops replying.

Any ideas.

Is there a network card conflict?  Like if the mobo has an onboard one and you have an extra in a slot?  That happens sometimes on the parents computer here.

Also, I don't know Linux all that much so this might not apply, sometimes it'll set up another LAN for no reason and turn that on so it conflicts with the other connection.

Those are my ideas.

Why don't you just cron an ifup?  It may not fix the problem, but it'll definitely cure the symptom.

Forum is slow.  May I suggest a huge wing upgrade for performance.

I can't afford a wing, so I'll just put some stickers on it instead.

I just rebooted the server.  It has needed a reboot for a couple weeks now, but I never want to do it at work in case it doesn't come back up and I always forget to do it by the time I get home.

If it is still sluggish, let me know and I'll give it the ol' cattle prod.  That should get it moving...
