Briney found this awesome program called Hamachi.

It acts as a LAN connection and is simple to use. We testing it on Empire Earth and it worked perfectly...without lag too! The complete list of games it works with is here - http://forums.hamachi.cc/viewtopic.php?t=180 . Most of them we have.

The group Briney started is user name - Mediamaster and pw - goober

We're going to try to get on tomm and/or Sat...hop on and have some good ol LAN fun with us!

Yes all you do is install, fire up the prog... then connect to my server dealie when its up and it acts as a VPN without the hastle...

As with Empire earth, you would just enter my himachi ip address and voila! connected to the game... no legal keys required!

Bah! It's not a LAN if it isn't local! Can we use Himachi to make a 2:00am Taco Bell run? Can we run stopsigns with our lights off with Himachi? Will Himachi allow us to bring cheerleaders to a geek gathering? I THINK NOT!

And yes, I can host lannage at my new place, but its in Ann arbor, so... bit of a drive!

I have a hard enough time moving my PC out to the living room, and you want me to take it to Ann Arbor? Bah!

I think we've all seen what happens when cheerleaders and X mixes...not the proudest moment of my life...but I think it was the first time that I've ever heard a LAN party deadly quiet.

Come on bob...play EE with us...and help us wall off the entire map!

Too true, this is a substandard replacement for a LAN...there is no name calling, no cries of dying when someone is sniped, and no Wes' mom jokes shouted from room to room...but it's still fun to play games with you guys!

Read about Hamachi on Lifehacker. I use it to help my mom with computer stuff when I'm away at school.

Everyone's right. You miss a lot of personal fun stuff with LDANs (Long distance area networks). It's almost like cybersex; the game is being played, but you miss plenty of sensory dimensions.

(That's as far as I'm going to go with that analogy...)

Speaking of playing games online, would anyone like to teach me how to play chess and/or play Magic: The Gathering online? I need some more playmates.

Just got back from the Bahamas...got a little sun...and I'm dark enough that I can actually pass as Filipino now! =)
