Title: New Lanage
Post by Briney on Jul 21st, 2006 at 3:27am
Ok, we messed up last time, no gamage. Mostly my fault I imagine. My card is twitchy these days for some reason. Games that use new features of directx 9c mess me up. Not sure on that one yet, still looking into it.

So lets figure out the games we want to play. Cause next lan, we are all going to come into it ready to play. Get the games that we list here. Torrent them or something. Having to install or copy them over, just makes things worse.

Ironman was telling me about some good ole fashion fun that might work.
A well balanced and wacky game called Half life : Team fortress.

The skeeball mod is the hotness.

Also, SMAC. honestly we gotta give the old bird another whirl, see how that goes.

Empire Earth for loads of nuking fun.

Unreal Tournament 2k4, good stuff.

So ya those are my suggestions i guess. discuss!

Well if we're going to have one...let's have it here at my apt...sometime before...let's say Aug. 7th?  No one is here and I have plenty of room.

I have UT2k4, Empire Earth 1 and 2.  I may have to copy at the LAN since I'm still on 56k at home.  :-[

Ok people here's the scoop...LAN party is it this weekend or next?  If it's either...we're going to have it on Friday.  If anyone is not available we can on Sat but I'd rather do it on Friday.  Now we can have a multitude as far as I'm concerned since I don't have to do much for the next two weeks.  So if random people want to randomly have LANs here at my apt it's basically free access.  So Friday we can start at noon...not 7.  So basically come.

Next we're going to make a list of games that we WILL play.  No one is to share anything or look at anything until the end of the night.  Also...MAKE SURE YOUR VIDEO CARD IS IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER AS WELL AS RAM, MONITOR, MICE, PROCESSOR, HARD DRIVES AND ANTI-CARPAL TUNNEL PADS!

If you guys want to next list your game preference I will complie a list and then I will enforce it stickly when and how long we play these games.

Any questions, comments, or suggestions...you can post them.  Whether or not I'll take them under advisement...meh.

In all seriousness I don't want to host some gay LAN like last time.  It was nice to see you all again but I wanted to play games and this time we will be.

hear hear... if its ok with yall, August 4th would be best for me. As the the games, Ut2k4, Empire Earth, Warcraft 3, and whatever else is good. Im trying to get my bloody card working,   :-/

Title: Re: New Lanage
Post by b0b on Jul 23rd, 2006 at 11:02pm
Honestly, I think the last LAN was not that bad, as long as it's viewed as a social event instead of a LAN.  Considering all the people that showed up without boxes, we probably should have just had a "get together" without systems.

I'm pretty sure a LAN on the 4th will work out, but I think I'll build a mid-range box just for that LAN.

Briney, if your card is malfunctioning, I'd be more than happy to loan you my 5600.  It easily ran all the games we've been talking about.  Is your motherboard still AGP?

-b0b
(...AGP for life, yo!)

PCI-X is a server slot.  PCI-E, maybe?

-b0b
(...has none, unfortunately.)

Post by The_Fat_Man on Jul 24th, 2006 at 2:37am
Dont feel bad briney I usually type it as pcix also...I was unaware there was an ACTUAL PCI-X slot :)

Title: Re: New Lanage
Post by Stick on Jul 24th, 2006 at 4:09am
The x part of the PCI-X must be like a variable, insert whatever is necessary, in the case E.

Right Briney?

:P

Title: Re: New Lanage
Post by Briney on Jul 24th, 2006 at 4:24am
or Express shortened to Ex, and then just x!

:P

Title: Re: New Lanage
Post by X on Jul 24th, 2006 at 11:46am
Gooood....goooood.  X has taken over math texts and problems, it has swallowed up numbers.  X can now be a letter or a number...another step in becoming omnipresent and omnipetent (since X can stand for anything and X already knows what it stands for).  Now it's taking over graphic cards!  There will be no one to stop us...this time.  Huuu paaaa Huuu paaaa.

On a related note, bring you computers to 5200 Croyden Ave. Apt 12202 Kalazoo, Michgan  49009.  It's over by K10.  If anyone needs further directions just call.  The LAN will be on FRIDAY AUGUST 4TH, 2006 STARTING AT NOON.

Now I know people have jobs and won't be able to make it until later.  If you can tell me who you are and around when you are planning to come...I'll set up the game list appropriately.

Also..../BOOMING VOICE/ FALL BEFORE YOUR KNEES AND THE MIGHT OF X!!! /LIGHTNING CRASH/

X
(Goodday)

PCI-X 2.0 is a new version of the 33MHz PCI bus, which was really only adopted by the server industry.  Most high-end SCSI and multi-camera video adapters are PCI-X.  There are two versions of PCI-X.  The first version, PCI-X R1, had two sub-versions, PCI-X 66 and PCI-X 133, at 66MHz and 133MHz, respectively.

The newer revision, PCI-X R2, also has two versions, PCI-X 266 and PCI-X 533.  The 533MHz version provides over 4GB (4.3GB if memory serves) of bandwith, or (theoretically) 32 times faster than the PCI bus in your computer.

Theoretical numbers for servers are generally far more accurate than they are for consumer PC's.  However, assuming the same degree of variance, the 4.3GB PCI-X 533 bus is easily twice as fast as the 2.1GB AGP 8x interface.

Bob I was wondering if you were coming to the LAN and if you are if you could bring a HUB and some cables?  If not I'll have to think of something else...anyone else have stuff we can use just in case Bob doesn't want to or can't?

Title: Re: New Lanage

I can't guarantee whether or not I'll be there yet, but even if I can't come, you can take my hub and cables.

(...points out an obvious solution.)

Alright well we're coming down to it.  Friday is the LAN and it starts at noon.

If you're coming just send up a message and give me a time around (it doesn't need to be exact and if you can't make it at that time later that's no prob) but it'll help me as to what games will be played.  I will post the schedule up once you people post.  This is going to be great!
