Title: Superman Returns (no spoilers) Post by The_Fat_Man on Jun 29th, 2006 at 2:11pm
Boy does he. I went and saw this movie last night and I have to say it's very well done. Much better than most of the comic movies that have been released this year.
I can usually tell a decent movie by the audience's responses, and there were several points in the movie that the audience broke out clapping or cheering....they did a good job of making Superman feel epic and heroic. The acting is good, the story is good for a comic book movies (No screenplay awards though), and the effects are just downright amazing at times. And not to mention the music by John Williams.....very very inspiring :) All in all if you want to see the movie its easily worth the 8 dollars or so you'll spend. PS: It's kinda long...almost 3 hours. |

I had a chance to see Superman Returns last night with Meredith and her family, and I think everyone came away impressed. As expensive as movie tickets are getting, it takes a lot to impress me these days, but it was a pretty decent movie.
If any of you are still debating whether or not to see it, I'd give it two thumbs up, so you can blame me if you don't like it. -b0b (...nods approvingly.) |

I give it a 7 out of 10 (B/B-). When everyone that will see the movie has seen the movie...I'll put my 2 cents in.

I enjoyed it as well. John Williams is amazing. One of my dreams is to play in a film score orchestra. I wanted to stand up and cheer every time I heard Superman's fanfare. Hurray for Wagnerian leitmotifs! (sorry, music geek speak)
There was, however, one thing that did bug me. The pop culture references and attempts at humor detracted from the feeling that Metropolis is a fantasy place. I wish they could have retro-ized it a bit. In some parts it felt like I was watching an episode of Smallville or something. Then again, I have been feeling cynical about a lot of things lately...so take my post with a grain of salt. A big grain. Sea salt perhaps. It has more minerals in it. By the way, nothing I say after midnight makes much sense. I think my brain turns into a pumpkin. |

I haven't seen it yet but just to add something, I recently watched Batman Returns again and that movie was very well done also. Is Superman a DC Comic(TM) character too?

DC Comics isn't always the best at movies though, so don't get too ahead of yourself.
I mean they are responsible for Batman and Robin and Batman Returns. |
