At first I thought this post said "I HAVE VD"...then I saw it was by Fatman and then I breathed a sigh of relief.
VD has become strung along like other fake hollidays as Sweatest Day, Love Day, and Christmas (or Hollidaymas or the dreded X-Mas). This is why you must find a sweet young female-like character who will let you off the hook from now till the Glorious Apperence from V-Day. And God bless those 3 women out there for it! I love free chocolate day!
Plus my gifts from last year have some serious replay value. ;) |

As a guy, I think VD is one of those holidays where it really is more fun to give than to receive (not that receiving is bad, mind you). It's the one day of the year where it's expected that I'll play the part of the hopeless romantic.
Honestly, it's only fun if you're creative. Roses and chocolate are so cliché. Do something unique and original. I guarantee your SO won't remember what kind of lame bouquet you bought her five years ago, but she'll certainly remember the strategically placed white roses that were delivered to her throughout the day by various co-conspirators. She might not be able to recall the box of chocolates you bought for her, but she'll remember the tickets you gave her to the show she thought you'd forgotten about. It's not about buying the biggest, flashiest gift, or spending the most money, but providing an experience that is both unique and memorable. It doesn't matter if you don't spend a single dime - as long as it's personal and has merited some time and effort, it will be something worthwhile. Instead of focusing on the "object," instead think of the "memory" you'll create. If you play your cards right, it'll be something she can tell her friends about for years to come. -b0b (...now Sweetest's Day, on the other hand, is a true Hallmark holiday.) |

Don't get me wrong...I wasn't trying to glorify objects over memories...and you very well know that.

I wasn't necessarily speaking to you specifically. If anything, the response was to FatMan.
-b0b (...so there!) |
Title: Re: I hate VD. Post by The_Fat_Man on Feb 15th, 2006 at 2:24pm
Don't get me wrong bob, I play along with the holiday. Hell this year I even bought three of my good friends (Female ones of course) and white rose and a card and left it there cars for them seems I didn't have a girlfriend to waste money on.
My complaint is the holiday is pointless. Correct me if I'm wrong but guys should be treating their girls this way all year, not just on one specific occasion when they are forced to by a consumer driven holiday. |

Wes,
With that attitude, how are you not married yet?! |
Title: Re: I hate VD. Post by The_Fat_Man on Feb 15th, 2006 at 11:42pm
I get bored easily....
No but seriously I'm actually a hopeless romantic when it comes to girls. I used to sneak into Leah's apartment and leave her 3 white roses on her table every Weds when she was at class, you know...so she always had fresh ones. I just like to come off as an ass at first ;) |

And then Cait reminds us why radical feminists should just become men and can't take a joke.

And then Pat and Cait jointly remind us to STOP THREAD-CRAPPING.

Well hey I'm the first one to admit I'm part female. I cry during movies, I like to cuddle, I believe communication is essential to a healthy relationship, i like chick-flicks, I don't find football all that entertaining, I like the ballet...I am "girly" in a lot of regards....that's why I found Jamie...you makes up for some of my short commings (and there are a lot) and I make up for hers (which there are only a few).

Title: Re: I hate VD. Post by Briney on Feb 16th, 2006 at 11:19pm
Cait, my apologies. Its just happens that we all tend to rag on each other pretty much every time we see or talk to each other, cause we care. So don't take any "hostilities" as a bad thing, its just how we do things I guess. I mean according to some, I master my media nightly, I like brokeback mountain, and I sculpt penises on a daily basis. None of that is true *cough* but ya know.
so its all good. ;D ~BRiney |

Yeah I'm pretty sure I've made Briney consider suicide at least eight times.

Title: Re: I hate VD. Post by Briney on Feb 17th, 2006 at 2:10am
I dont think its ever gotten to me that bad. I remember 2 instances of blind rage. 1 was Bob all up on my computer and the other... Well I cant be too sure, but im sure it involved the fatman in some way.

Title: Re: I hate VD. Post by The_Fat_Man on Feb 17th, 2006 at 3:34am
It was.
It's all good though, being the good friends that we are, we worked it out. Shared some tears, confessed our sins, and ate some Ben and Jerry's afterwards. Good times. |
