HardOCP has an interesting forum thread about "ghetto rigs." I was thinking about submitting pictures from the "Cardboard Computer" I built for my parents a couple of years ago. It was a fine example of what can be done with cardboard, duct tape, zip ties, crumpled paper and a ton of ingenuity. I'll have to submit some pictures of it when I get home.
Here are some of my favorites... Enjoy the linkage. http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=896218 -b0b (...laughed twice.) |

Yeah, that's definitely worthy of addition. I think we've all had ghetto rigs at one time or another.
Before I lost the server stuff, I had pictures of my first web server with eleven drives crammed into it, with the last two zip tied to the chassis with paper towel wadded up to keep the drives a few millimeters apart. There's probably a reason why that machine caught on fire... Of course, the cardboard computer strikes high on the list. You've got to give props to any machine that's held together with duct tape. Briney, you've had plenty of ghetto-riggin' experiences. Wes snappin' off the door of your case in Whipple's class (I wonder what Whipple is up to these days?) was hilarious, even if you weren't so thrilled at the time. The cheap-o case that kept losing legs (making it quite literally "lame") was also classic, as was your current rig with a separate power supply for drives. -b0b (...thinks real men can run eleven drives on a single off-brand 300W power supply (until it melts.)) |

Oh, and we can't forget the Backstreet Boys case of FatMan fame.
Hey Wes, does Leah know about that little "indiscretion?" While I'm thinking about Ghetto Rigs, do you still have any pictures of our PC shooting expedition? That poor Compaq was absolutely riddled with .30-30, .45, .357 Mag, .308, and my personal favorite, .223 from the AR-15. Woohoo! We definitely have to plan another PC shooting expedition next spring. We'll have my new baby, my XD .40SW 4" Service, to blow away some stuff. I've got that orphaned iMac in the basement that is just begging for punishment. -b0b (...bahahaha!) |

Oh, and I have heard of the pantyhose for an air filter. Many people use them and replace them later down the road when there is a little dust cloggage. |

Here's the cardboard computer I was talking about. These are pictures of the assembly process, and they are in numeric order (with crappy ones deleted). Enjoy!
