There are two quick and painless methods to enumerate the serial number on a NetApp controller. If you only want the serial number, here's my preferred method:
rdfile /etc/serialnum
If you want more information about the configuration of the system, you can get everything but the kitchen sink using the following command. The serial number is located near the top of this wall of text.
sysconfig -a
