After completing an NX-OS upgrade on a Cisco MDS 9513, I found myself staring at a Hostname(standby)# prompt. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to get the prompt back to the active supervisor. After hitting my head against the keyboard for ten minutes, I finally figured out I could use the attach module X command to get back to the active supervisor, where X is the bay of the supervisor you're trying to switch to.
In case you're working on a remote device, it's helpful to know which slots your supervisor modules are in. On an MDS 9513, the supervisors are in slots 7 and 8. On a 9509 or 9506, the supervisors are in slots 5 and 6. You can always verify which supervisor is the active and which is the standby by issuing the show system redundancy status command.
